Week 51

“Characterized by its untouched wilderness, high mountain passes, unpredictable weather and warm hospitality, the Silk Road Mountain Race is an adventure like none other.

The Silk Road Mountain Race is a fixed route, unsupported, single-stage cycling race through the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. The clock does not stop and there are no prizes. It follows gravel, single and double track and old soviet roads that have long been forgotten and fallen into disrepair. There is very little tarmac. There is some hike a bike, and at times there is great distances between resupply points.

The exact distance and elevation vary from year to year, but riders can expect approximately 1900km in distance, 30,000m of climbing, and 14 days to complete the route. -Silk Road Mountain Race"

Tidbits

70.3 World Championships: New Zealand FINALLY hosted the 70.3 World Championships this past weekend in beautiful and majestic Taupo. Jelle Geens & Taylor Knibb were crowned 2024 IM 70.3 Champs - hear what they had to say after they broke the tape:

✅Chilly Vibes: Winter ANYWHERE is, by nature, chillier than normal. However; endurance training in the cold (colder the better, according to studies), means extra gainz when race day rolls around. Read HERE how cold weather can help level up your aerobic capacity.

✅Broadcast Final Grades: With the advent of YouTube Live, Facebook Live and all the other ‘DIY streaming’ options that exist; it’s made watching endurance sports (actually) live, SO much more attainable. However, with these DIY streaming options - comes somewhat shaky film production. See how Slowtwitch grades IM performance in the film department.

✅Sydney Marathon: Sydney becoming the 7th Abbott Marathon Major might also mean that it’s now added to your marathon bucket list - making it just a bit longer (and let’s be honest - a LOT more expensive to pull off). Read EVERYTHING you need to know about the Sydney Marathon.

✅IRONMAN Wrapped: You spend enough time training - you might as well embrace the endurance side of your ‘Year Wrapped’. If you’re on Strava, you can also look at the number of hours and miles you committed to the pavement in 2024, it’s probably like a second full-time job.
