Week 21
Taylor Knibb already has a ticket punched to Paris for the Big Dance (The Olympics) this summer in triathlon. Now; sheâs punched it a second time in cycling. In an elite athletic world that it is becoming exceedingly rare to see an athlete âcrossâ sports and compete in more than one unrelated discipline at the Olympics, Taylor is breaking status quo and making it her own. In a very calculated effort in West Virginia, she rode her ass off to ANOTHER top podium spot & Olympic berth.
In this weekâs email:
Taper Week: When youâre tapering; what kind of person are you? Weâre the over analyzers.
TRI VIP: Try out PTOâs version of âVIPâ packages at the T100 Las Vegas.
Breakfast Prep: If youâre from one of the Western States (or Texas), breakfast burritos are a staple on every cafe and coffee shop menu. If youâre not as lucky (or you want to save $7.99); meal prep breakfast burritos for a quick & healthy meal.
Ditch the Basketball shorts: Step up your game (or your husbandâs game) with some new athletic/lounge shorts. Plus, theyâre super soft.
đListen to a Cadence-recommended Pod: Simone Biles, Americaâs Sweetheart, is back at it after a REALLY rough last Olympic cycle. Itâs not our normal rec; but it is a good listen with some great takeaways on how to stay resilient in the face of adversity.
TikTok of the Weekend:
@cometriwithannie not to mention the water was 52 degrees F / 11 celcius đ„¶ Brutal day for the swim!!
Race Results of the Week
Tidbits
â Morro Bay: Morro Bay is just north of San Luis Obispo; the water is cold and thereâs strong currents. 70.3 Morro Bay is a beautiful but incredibly challenging course. With nearly an up current swim and frigid water temps; there were more than 500 DNFs at this race. Check out this in-depth race recap.
â Aerobar Lesson: Aerobars are now a must-have for long-distance cycling, time trial cycling and longer triathlon distances. But where exactly did they come from, and why are they SO integral in revolutionizing achievable FAST cycling speeds.
â Silent Review: Thereâs a new protein shake that tastes like candy popping up every other week on the grocery store shelves. But reallyâŠwhich ones rise to the top? Watch this silent review for some clarityâŠyou can even watch it on mute!
@dietitianwithtwins âšWINNER(s??) AT THE END!! đđ»Hereâs my review of each: Muscle Milk (Vanilla) - So many processed ingredients; 25g protein + 6g fiber is OK ... See more
â Steeple Rundown: Steeplechase is an odd event in the world of Track & Field; but what actually is it?? If youâre not a distance runner that eyes the steeplechasers, this oneâs for you:
@_charihawkins Another thing: you hit a hurdle, you get a slower time, you hit a steeple barrier⊠youâre DONE đ« #respect
đBucket List Recs
Big training week behind ya and want to add something to your bucket list? Need something to kick your butt into high gear? Check out our endurance bucket list recs below and sign up for something youâll probably regret when youâre doing a 20 mile training run in August in the Midwest.
Faroe Islands: Weâre tropical vacationers; youâd be hard-pressed to see us somewhere chilly and overcast. BUT - the Faroe Islands, located between Iceland and Norway, are absolutely stunning and definitely a bucket list race/trail run.
Transylvanian Bear Race - Romania: The websiteâs disclaimer says everything you need to know about this race: âThe difficulty of these routes should not be underestimated. Nor should the vibrancy of the local wildlife, which includes wolves and bears.â Nothing like sighting a wild predator to up your pace along the 42km or 80km that wind through the Romanian wilderness, ending at the birthplace of the one and only Vlad Dracul.
Red Bull Challenge: Could you make it across Europe in a week with nothing but Red Bull as a currency? No Google Maps, Venmo; allll old school adventure-style. You can follow along with the participants (the challenge is happening now!) HERE: https://www.redbull.com/int-en/events/red-bull-can-you-make-it
