Week 49

Fake news is NOT just for the political news of the world. This week, the gossip mill within the running community was strong. ShaâCarri Richardson, an 100 M sprinter from LSU, was in the limelight (again). ShaâCarri is a phenomenal runner who infamously was dropped off the Team USA right before the Tokyo Olympics for testing positive for marijuana. Recently, a ânews siteâ EquityAtlas.org (we say ânewsâ because they really just post random shit for clicks & views) published an article that ShaâCarri signed a $20 million endorsement with Nike. Her reps, nor her, nor Nike, have confirmed this - so weâre calling this a fake news moment. Nike does have a history of representing some of the most influential athletes with - ahem - banned extracurricular activities. We wish ShaâCarri the best, and the way sheâs been crushing track season, have no doubt sheâll be toeing the line with some of the worldâs best runners next summer.

Post of the Week:
Yah, we know this was published in 1992, but when we saw it; we couldnât stop laughing our asses off. Unless youâre an ultrarunner, you know the quest to cut back on the snacks is fruitless.

Tidbits
Why is a marathon 26.2? Honestly, before we googled this question, we really just chalked it up to whatever gossip was tossed around during long runs. But reallyâŚwhy is it 26.2? Our OCD minds wanted to know why NOT pick an even number like 26? Read this excerpt below from the History Channel and be just as enlightened as we were:
âThe idea for the modern marathon was inspired by the legend of an ancient Greek messenger who raced from the site of Marathon to Athens, a distance of about 40 kilometers, or nearly 25 miles, with the news of an important Greek victory over an invading army of Persians in 490 B.C. After making his announcement, the exhausted messenger collapsed and died. To commemorate his dramatic run, the distance of the 1896 Olympic marathon was set at 40 kilometers.â
â Inspire a Coach: In sport, coaches are almost always the one that lead the charge, give the halftime pep talk and encourage young athletes to aspire, endure and achieve big goals. But - coaches can be equally as moved by their athletes in return. Next time you see somebody thatâs changed your life, let them know (thatâs it for us being #inourfeels).
â Gravel Riding ASMR: Ride your heart out through small town Georgia and take in all the âbless your hearts,â sweet tea and peaches your cycling shorts can handle (shout out club-cut 100% spandex riding âfits).
â Sydney Marathon: Abbott Marathon Majors is getting closer to adding another marathon - and on another continent, no less. Sydney Marathon passed their first test, and have now moved onto the second round of the process.
â XC < INDOOR TRACK: Parker Valby may have just won NCAAs XC nationals just a few weeks ago - but sheâs already turninâ and burninâ to snag her national qualifier for Indoor NCAA T&F Nationals. 14:56 laterâŚsheâs got more than just a national qualifier time, sheâs now bagged a NCAA record in the indoor 5000m.
đBucket List Recs
Big training week behind ya and want to add something to your bucket list? Need something to kick your butt into high gear? Check out our endurance bucket list recs below and sign up for something youâll probably regret when youâre doing a 20 mile training run in August in the Midwest.
Michigan Coast to Coast: Cycle from the right side of the Mitten State to the Third Coast side (Lake Michigan). 204 miles later, you can join the ranks of people that can say they cycled across the state. Niche brag, but still.
Take The Bridge: First rule of Fight Club, is you donât talk about Fight Club. Take The Bridge isnât as hardcore as Fight Club, but itâs just as edgy. Take to the city streets in an unsanctioned race, during the darkest hours of the night to race your heart out. Plus, we LOVE the branding.
Round The Sound: Test your luck in the Bermuda Triangle with this 10K marathon swim. Supported swim, warm (and clear!) water, in an Insta-worthy country - whatâs more to ask?
Performance Of The Week(end)
Marc Dubrick continues to rise to the top early in his professional career; our money is on him to become a force of nature in IM TRI in the next 5 years. Sam Long (3rd place) just notched his 30th podium finish in his career. Nice job, boys.
