Social media can make it hard to give yourself credit where credit is due for your endurance achievements, especially when you follow your favorite elite athletes and see them crushing 100-mile weeks, century rides and 10K swims like it’s absolutely nothing. Have you ever heard the saying “comparison is the thief of joy?” Well - sometimes, social media can do the same thing.

Train like the idols you follow on Insta - but remember, don’t compare yourself to somebody that literally trains for a living. Your achievements are valid and you should be proud of the time you commit to training, and the workouts you finish.

In this week’s email:

  • The Duo We Never Saw Coming: If you told us Pitbull and Dolly Parton were going to collab in 2024; we would’ve told you you were losing your mind. But. Here we are; Pitbull x Dolly Parton just dropped the song you’re going to want to treadmill strut to; Powerful Women.

  • Hydration: If you’re like us, and sweat like a pig when you’re running/cycling/anything; this is the shit you need to keep you going. Gatorade ain’t gonna cut it.

  • How to Watch Tokyo Marathon: Watch Eliud Kipchoge (probably) crush the last marathon before the Olympics this summer.

  • To Double or Not: 2-a-days don’t just have to be reserved for elite and collegiate runners; if you bonk after 60 minutes, considering splitting your run into 2 (if you have the time).

The Running Boom of the 1970s: While the history of running doesn’t need to be explained (evolution and all kind of does that for us), the history of running as a fitness routine for us mere mortals CAN be researched a bit. In the late 1960s, Bill Bowerman, wrote a book, entitled ‘Jogging: A Medically Approved Physical Fitness Program For All Ages’ that would go on to sell more than 1,000,000 copies. It was then, and then through the 1970s, that jogging became something people just did for exercise, to stay in shape, and to loose weight.

✅Slow Carbs vs. Fast Carbs: We all know there’s a difference between good and bad carbs (quinoa vs. a grilled cheese), but did you know there’s a difference between fast and slow carbs? The quick rule to remember; fast carbs are needed when you need to go fast (during endurance activities) and slow carbs are better suited for when you need to go slow (recover, day to day life).

✅TYR Branches Out: TYR is the new kid on the street when it comes to running shoes and “super” running shoes. While they aren’t the coolest looking shoes, they certainly have a spot in your running shoe rotation as a solid, comfortable and well-constructed running shoe.

✅Highest Paid Track Athlete: Even if you’re not a track superfan, undoubtedly, you know the name Usain Bolt. He broke barriers on the track, and off - being one of the highest paid athletes of all-time, not just in endurance sports. Now, Noah Lyles, 100/200m specialist, is holder of the richest contract since Bolt - coming in at more than $2 million/year, from Adidas.

✅London Marathon Race Report: If you’re an American and have not made the trek across The Pond for an international marathon, now’s your chance to read a super thorough race report, and throw in your hat for the 2025 London Marathon - start training now!

🏃Bucket List Recs

Big training week behind ya and want to add something to your bucket list? Need something to kick your butt into high gear? Check out our endurance bucket list recs below and sign up for something you’ll probably regret when you’re doing a 20 mile training run in August in the Midwest.

  • Arch to Arc Triathlon: They’ve dubbed this the Toughest Triathlon in the World; honestly, we’re too afraid to attempt it. Get yourself from London to Paris; ‘The Hard Way’, which includes 87 miles of running, swimming the English Channel and cycling 181 miles. Yikes.

  • Arrowhead Ultra 135: 135 miles of ultra trail running in the wilderness of Minnesota; it’s not for the faint of heart, and it will test your will over undulating and unforgiving topography, weather conditions and wildlife.

  • Laugavegur Trail: Iceland is on our bucket list for more than one reason; but this trail just pushes it to the top of our list, that much quicker. Watch this video of the trail and how to hike it; it’s unreal.
